I first heard about Son Lux over at the Arts & Faith Discussion Board, and since then the CD has earned a permanent spot on my iPod. At War With Walls and Mazes, the debut album from Ryan Lott (and band) is a bit hard to describe musically: Contemplative Electronica maybe. At times it’s a sparse Pink Floyd or an electrified Sufjan Stevens. At other times, it’s an orchestral menagerie full of loops, samples and moody electronic seascapes. But throughout, a biblical imagery is woven. From the prologue, this simple theme:
Put down all your weapons,
Let me in through your open wounds.
The praise has been pretty effusive for the album, though I’m guessing you’d be hard pressed to find it face out on the Best Buy Hot Seller rack. Either way, I’m really lovin’ this!
Heading over to listen to it right now.
Oh, I love Son Lux! I love the way the sounds weave and the hints of theology.
