I’m not exactly sure what a patron saint does, but I need one for the book I’m working on. Not that I really believe in patron saints. Nevertheless, I was thrilled to discover that a plethora of patron saints inhabit the Catholic pantheon. Here’s a samplin’ from the American Catholic:
- Patron Saint of Anesthetists — St. Rene Goupil
- Cab drivers — St. Fiacre
- Compulsive Gamblers — St. Bernardine of Siena
- The Internet — St. Isidore of Seville
- Writers — St. Francis de Sales
- Beer Makers — St. Luke, St. Augustine of Hippo, St. Nicholas
- Construction workers — St. Thomas the Apostle
- Pawnbrokers — St. Nicholas
- Gravediggers — St. Anthony the Abbot
- Editors — St. John Bosco
- Earaches — St. Polycarp
- Knee problems — St. Roch
- Comedians — St. Vitus
- Archaeologists — St. Helen
- Juvenile delinquents — St. Dominic Savio
- Bee keepers — St. Ambrose
- Computers — St. Isidore of Seville
Phoenix and Zoe will be thrilled to know that St. Francis has their back. And it’s comforting to know that if my computer ever crashes, St. Isidore of Seville is there to bless the bytes and weed out worms. How one gets to be the patron saint of computers is another story. Either way, I need a patron saint for lycanyhtropes. It’s just not right that vampires get their own patron, at least in the Buffyverse. So why not werewolves? Okay, how does Saint Harry sound?
Interesting that they need three saints to protect/guard/bless? the beer makers. You think it might be to keep from them from becoming a lush? Both the beer makers and the saints?
Honestly, it should be Saint Hairy or Saint Wolfie.
Oops, “keep them from becoming . . .” And, no, I haven’t been drinking. Hiccup.
Who are Phoenix and Zoe???
Im a photographer who writes in her spare time. I stumbled across your site when I was looking for a patron Saint of Vampires for a book I am writing. Long story short, I started and then gave up on a werewolf novella, and the head wolf in my story’s name was Therian. you can have it if ya want it. haha. …Saint Therian doesnt sound so bad.
Hi. I’m writing a book about an angel. I’d love to share notes with you (I didn’t say he was a good angel)! Anyhow, I couldn’t ever find a Saint for your exact needs, however I think I’ve found something that you could make work. Look at this: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Who_is_the_patron_saint_of_the_dead
With just a bit of tweaking, I think this would work well for you. If it helped, let me know. I’d love to get a copy of your book. Tell me about it.
