It’s official — I’m part of the Orange County Christian Writers Fellowship (OCCWF) 2012 Conference staff. This year’s conference will held May 18-20 at the beautiful Radisson Hotel in Newport Beach, CA.
The OCCWF faculty includes editor and writing mentor Mick Silva, author and screenwriter Bill Myers, Urban Fantasy novelist Merrie Destefano, and senior editor of Regal Books, Steven Lawson, just to name a few. You can find the entire faculty list HERE.
I’ll be leading two 1-hour workshops as well as being available for consultations, 15 minute sessions with anyone who wants to pick my brain, solicit my advice, or punch me in the nose for something nasty I’ve written. I submitted 5 potential workshop topics and, lo and behold, the two I was most interested in teaching were selected. Here’s the blurbs:
Critique Groups – This workshop will discuss the pros and cons of being in a critique group, peer vs. professional critique, rogue critiquers, personality clashes, what to look for in a critique group, how to recognize a dysfunctional critique group, what makes a good critique, how to give good critiques and how to receive them.
The Christian Speculative Fiction Writer – This workshop will discuss the continued popularity of speculative themes in our culture, how speculative themes mesh with Scripture, the market challenges that Christian authors in this genre face, and growing outlets and approaches for aspiring Christian Spec-Fic writers.
Did I say how thrilled I am?
Anyway, registration will opening soon. If you happen to live in the SoCal area, I’d love to meet you!
Congratulations, Mike! I am just thrilled to pieces for you. That is just grand!
Delighted to hear it, Mike! A great way to give back. 🙂
How many of those “punch you in the nose” slots are available again? 🙂
Congratulations!
Well, this is too cool! Congratulations. I do wish I were closer and therefore more able to attend.
I’m sure you’ll have a fantastic time!
You’re going to do great, Mike! Wish I could be there to meet you in person, but alas …
Congratulations, Mike.
It’s going to be a great time, Mike! Make sure you get plenty of sleep the night before. You will be talking non-stop. All. Day. Long.
I really am gonna pick, pick and pick your brain. Thanks for letting us do that. 😉
