Today I’m guest posting at Speculative Faith with a post entitled Reasons Christians Don’t Read Horror (and Why They Should). In it, I tackle some of the most common objections Christians use in refusing to read the horror genre. Like
- Horror is about Darkness, but Christianity is about Light.
- The reality of evil is not justification to focus on it.
- Horror evokes fear and dread, and God does not want Christians to live in fear.
A snippet from my response:
…horror IS meant to shock. It is meant to unsettle us, rouse our complacency, “pierce the veil” of la-la land, and “stab us” from our stupor. Yes, God does not want you to live in fear. However, sometimes it IS fear that shocks us into living.
