I tire so quickly of talking politics. But nothing will take my mind off the malaise like a good Razzie.
In last year’s Razzie Rating, I was a near-perfect 1 of 5. My lone slip up was M. Night Shyamalan’s awful Lady in the Water, which I reviewed HERE. (Though LitW missed out on the Worst Picture award, M. Night took home the Golden Raspberry for Best Supporting Actor and Best Director, both well-deserved.)
So several weeks ago, those lovable sourballs announced their 2007 Nominees for Worst Picture of the Year. They are, “The envelope please. . .”
- Bratz
- Daddy Day Camp
- I Know Who Killed Me
- I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry
- Norbit
Lindsey Lohan’s thriller, “I Know Who Killed Me,” in which she plays two characters — a small-town girl abducted by a psychopath and an alter-ego, a stripper who’s missing body parts — led the awards with nine Razzie nominations. Eddie Murphy’s Norbit (is it just me, or does Mr. Murphy make at least one crude, stooopid movie a year?) received a total of 8 nominations, tying it with Adam Sandler’s I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, a tale about two New York firemen who pretend to be a married gay couple to scam medical benefits. (Hey, where was GLAD when this clunker released?)
Thankfully, this year I improved my score, going a perfect 0 of 5. Unlike 2006, I wasn’t even tempted to see one of these duds. However, I am a bit bummed because my personal Worst Movie of 2007 missed the cut. Neil Jordan’s The Brave One, starring Jodie Foster as a brutal vigilante, was bleak, bloody and totally preposterous. (Sorry, Lisa, that I forced you to witness that wreck. . .)
Anyway, congrats to the 2007 Razzie nominees! The rest of us can take comfort in the fact that, though our Hollywood icons are considerably more wealthy and good looking than us, they can still suck.
M. Night’s new one doesn’t look to be much better.
I’m surprised License to Wed and Next weren’t on there. Hopefully they at least merited consideration. That’s about 3 1/2 hours I’d like to get back.
Yeah, I’ve seen the posters for The Happening at the theater, and the trailer (which was recently pulled from YouTube), and I’d probably have to agree. As much as I liked Shyamalan’s earlier stuff, his niche seems to be becoming more of a rut. Really, I’m hoping this movie will be better than the last, that he won’t star in it, that he’ll listen to the studio crits and, maybe even pursue a more conventional ending. Alas, either way, I’ll probably end up seeing it.
OMW! I just can’t get past that picture!!! Someone would actually pose like that … in public. OMW … Oh, I did grow up on the beach; I shouldn’t be so shocked. Okay, trying to regain composure here. Okay … you did write a post here and not simply put up a picture. Perhaps now I can read the words and ignore the picture.
Ame, that is Eddie Murphy in a latex suit. He plays three roles in that movie. . . all of them horribly stereotypical.
I liked License to Wed. Cracked me up.
However, when my husband kept telling me that we HAD to watch Chuck and Larry, that the guys at work said it was really funny, I just couldn’t bring myself to go along with it. Sounded to awful!
Poor Linsey. She used to be so sweet and fun. Hope she gets it together.
I’m with you–Lady in the Water was absurd. I know I won’t score any points with you here, Mike, but I think 300 should be on that list.
Oh, Mike, thanks! Now, THAT’S REALLY funny! Gosh, I’m so behind on the movie scene! Ahhh … perhaps, again, someday 🙂
