$pring is in the air!

You gotta love this time of year! Sure, opening the windows and letting the smell of citrus blossoms oust the winter must, is great. But I’m talkin’ bout hoops, baby! We LOVE basketball around here and, with the NCAA Tournament starting tomorrow and the NBA in its final month, I couldn’t be more happy.

As I reported early last year, I was all set up to win our NBA basketball pool. . . AND DID. But that’s not all! It appears I’m in the lead to take it all again this year. Sorry, guys. But the cash is going to a worthy cause. . . like THIS.

So I’m due to win a March Madness pool. And with my expertise in high gear, and my karma on a roll, I’m thinking this is the year. Can anyone say hat trick? CBS announced that they’d be streaming almost the entire tournament so that schleps like me who have a job can watch the game on their work PC. But even more exciting is the Boss Button, a feature that allows the viewer, with a single keystroke, to instantly replace the game with spreadsheets if the enemy, er, their boss, approaches. Brilliant! Now if only I had a button to eliminate my boss.

So on to the picks:

FINAL FOUR:

  • NORTH CAROLINA TARHEELS
  • KANSAS JAYHAWKS
  • TEXAS LONGHORNS
  • UCLA BRUINS

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME:

  • KANSAS JAYHAWKS
  • UCLA BRUINS

NATIONAL CHAMPION:

  • UCLA BRUINS

Okay, pretty safe picks. I know. But the George Mason‘s of the world are a rarity. And with spring in the air and money on the line, who can worry about a George Mason. . .

This is quite an amazing time of the year (late October is also a great time; World Series, NFL, and start of the NBA season). There will be games going all day long for the next four days. I’m tempted to buy a case of beer and sit on the couch for the next 96 hours. By the end of the weekend the sweet 16 will be set!
I almost took Kansas to win it all. But I played it safe and went with Carolina beating UCLA in the finals.

CD, to even suggest that you can drink a case of beer in 96 hours shows how mis-guided your picks are. Good luck next year!

I like to see how well I can do without really knowing anything about college basketball whatsoever (I’m more of a football and hockey guy). For the record, I picked Memphis, which probably does nothing more than show how clueless I am.

Your Final Four is admirable, but Kansas will win. 🙂
